My name is Marielle Yogi and I was born in 1987 in a small town close to Maastricht (NL). I work as a Painter, Photographer and Illustrator. Also elements of graphic design, collage work and typography I incorporate into my practice. Inspired by wherever I find myself to be in a specific moment, my painting style can be recognized through naive and quick lines and brush strokes: portrait paintings, figurative and abstract works.

In 2016 I graduated from the art academy in Maastricht. From 2017 till 2019 I lived and worked in Hamburg as a part of the art and design collective HAUS43. In between my studio practice I worked as a yoga and art teacher in Uganda. I still have my own projects running as in portrait paintings from the local people I meet and work with during my stay in Uganda.

From February till September 2022. I was actively working in a studio in Ibiza. I created a new series of portraits from the local people in Uganda. With these series I exhibited in Ibiza and in Maastricht (NL). HIDDEN PROFILES was born. Also, an old series of ‘HUMANITY’ I developed into a new style exposed in paintings and graffiti.

My biggest footprint and personal growth happened in the cultural free zone LANDBOUWBELANG, also based in Maastricht. In the past 3 years I was working in an art collective at the 2nd floor. My job was to coordinate the space with painters and photographers. In these 3 years I learned a lot, developed my painting style and focused on a wider network as goal to exhibit world wide. Now I spread my wings and I will continue working in Utrecht.

HUMANITY

My topic of interest ‘HUMANITY’ came to be the umbrella for many painting projects I executed over the past two years. My philosophy as an artist is to make the work speak for itself by adding a new perspective through each layer of paint.
